Parent Resources

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about how you can be involved as a parent.

The Wells Branch PTA's Go Green Team is committed to making Wells Branch Elementary School a recognized Green Ribbon School in the coming years. The cornerstones of a Green Ribbon School are an environmentally friendly campus; nature adventure; health, fitness and nutrition; and natural classrooms.

We are excited and grateful that you have decided to be a part of the "Go Green Team".

Haven't joined yet?  Here are two simple steps to join.

How can I be involved as a parent?
1.) Participate in the "No Idling Program" - If you drive to school, please turn off your engines when waiting in the car rider lanes for morning drop-off or afternoon pick-up. Download and read the .pdf letter below for more information about why this is important:

2.) Be a "Gardening Team Lead" for a class (12 volunteers needed in the Fall & Spring)
You are invited to work with one teacher and their class, serving as a guide/instructor that helps facilitate the gardening and learning process with the students. We will be using the Junior Master Gardener Curriculum. E-mail us your name, email address with "Gardening Team Lead" as the e-mail subject to [email protected].

3.) Be a "Gardening Team Buddy" in your child's class (lots of volunteers needed!)
No gardening experience is required. You will serve as a vital support to the classroom teacher and gardening team leader (also a parent volunteer) while the children are in the gardens (in the Fall & Spring). E-mail us your name, email address, and child's teacher's name with "Gardening Team Buddy" as the e-mail subject to [email protected].

4.) Be an Afterschool Garden Club Volunteer (2-3 volunteers needed): Assist with the afterschool gardening program with students. Email your name, phone number and email address to [email protected] with "Afterschool Garden Club" as the e-mail subject.

5.) Help Transport Supplies: Have a truck or know of someone who does? Are you willing to help pick-up and/or drop-off gardening supplies to the school? We want to create a list of people who have trucks who we can call on when the need arises to transport supplies. Email your name, phone number and email address to [email protected] with "Transport Supplies" as the e-mail subject.

  • 6.) Secure more grants for our programs: Want to help from home? Want to help us secure more funding? We applied for and received grants in 2011-2012 school year and look forward to securing more this year. This is something you can help do from home. No experience is necessary. We already have a couple volunteers to support you. Email your name, phone number and email address to  [email protected] with "Grant Writing" as the e-mail subject.

7.) Learn About Cool Local Resources:
Where do we get our seeds, soil and seedlings from?
www.sustainablefoodcenter.org - Austin's Sustainable Food Center (SFC) creates opportunities for individuals to make healthy food choices and to participate in a vibrant local food system. Through organic food gardening, relationships with area farmers, interactive cooking classes and nutrition education, children and adults have increased access to locally grown food and are empowered to improve the long-term health of Central Texans and our environment.

Thank you for your desire and commitment to making Wells Branch Elementary School a greener school for our children, teachers and community.
